Living the pier
Competition Fondation Bénéteau, 2nd prize, with Matthis Carbonnier, 2016
Personal Competition
This competition was organized by a ship constructor wanting to approach the theme of “living with the water”. We decided to reclaim a very maritime archetype, the pier. Our project is a concept of a 500 meter long floating pier that can host 200 dwellings and a new linear public space. The modular construction should allow to insert diverse typologies with large terraces towards the water or the central park. We thought the dwellings in a quite minimal way, inspired by the optimized design of boats, and exploiting the density in order to offer generous communal spaces for clusters of housing units as well as larger facilities on the ground floor.
This pier is though as a prototype that could be integrated along different urban contexts that we explored with a closer look in the small city of Vevey on the Geneva Lake in Switzerland.
