Public Library Mannheim, Competition, 2020

Sauerbruch Hutton Architects

The library of Mannheim is nowadays scattered between several inadequate buildings. The project is located in the very city centre of the square-grid city. The specificity of this place is that only half of the typical Mannheim block is built, offering a nice public square in a city that lacks of qualitative public spaces.

We though the library as a spatial spiral that lifts from the plaza to roll around the central atrium up to the reading garden roof.

I worked mainly on the conception of interior spaces of the project and finally realized the main perspective section of the project.
